Adoptable Pets

What is Foster-to-Adopt?

All of our animals that are adopted out will go through what we call FTA (foster-to-adopt). The animal is placed in a home and the family is provided with food, a crate, bowls, collar, and a leash leash; everything the animal needs! For at least two weeks, the family fosters the dog to see if it is a good fit for the lifestyle and personalities of the people in the home, and vice versa. We check in with the family during this time to answer any questions and ensure things are going well.

Please note: During the FTA period, the dog still belongs to Riley’s Rescue of Brevard. Ownership is not transferred unless and until the adoption is finalized.

After at least two weeks, if everyone feels it is a good fit, the adoption process will begin. The adopter makes a vet appointment to establish the animal at their family’s vet, we collect adoption fees, and sign contracts. After the adoption is finalized, you are officially part of the Riley’s Rescue of Brevard family!

Why FTA? Riley’s Rescue of Brevard wants to find homes where our animals will thrive. We want to place them with the people and homes that fit their personalities and needs, and we don’t want anyone to rush into a decision they may not be prepared for. Our FTA process gives time with no pressure for families to learn all about their new animal and to see if their lifestyle is compatible to welcome in this furry family member.
